In the coming years, many municipalities will face major changes aimed at cost reduction and simultaneously safeguarding quality. Just as in business life, because of the crisis, choices will have to be made in the total policy portfolio, on the one hand, and the implementation and management organisation, on the other.

By setting up a management organisation in which directing is central and translating this into professional standards for clients, the management of the executive working processes within municipalities can be structurally improved. Our experience shows that maintaining the quality level and increasing the efficiency at services and implementation processes in the municipal environment can go together very well. This is proven by our experience with:

  • the management and maintenance of public space;
  • waste management and disposal;
  • facilities and services;
  • property management;
  • environmental research, soil surveying, remediation, asbestos identification and removal;
  • management of traffic systems and infrastructure.

In the municipalities of Aalsmeer and Gouda, Van de Bunt implemented the outsourcing of the management and maintenance to private bodies. Structural savings of 10% were achieved in these cases. In the municipality of Dordrecht, we are working on setting up professional client standards for both the property department and the land development department. Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for the suppliers enable savings to be achieved on the tariffs, with improved quality management. In the municipality of Amsterdam, a repositioning was supervised in which the organisation of the directing and advising position was central. In the municipalities of Bodegraven and Waddinxveen, an SLA has been formulated in the area of waste management and disposal.
